Learned something about Gmail attachments today…

I have a story idea I worked on using Word Mobile on my phone. I saved the story on the memory card, then attached the file to a Gmail message and saved the message as a draft. When I got to work I was able to open the message and continue working on the story using the work computer, with no issue. However, after saving the file and attaching it to a draft again, I was unable to open the attachment with the mobile versions of either Opera or MSIE on the phone. I couldn’t open the attachment until I got home to my computer. I was a little surprised at being unable to open the story on the phone. Maybe my browsers aren’t up to date…

Most likely, work computer “word” is from ms office 2007 or 2010. These “words” are persistently offering new *.docx format, which in fact is zip archive instead *.doc. And mobile “word” understands only old format.

Thanks, I figured it was something like that. The work version of Office is 2007, and my phone has Windows Mobile 6.5, which also uses the .docx format. But for some reason it just wouldn’t open. Lately I’ve been putting the text in the draft message itself, rather than as an attachment, so any device that can access Gmail can open the email message. And when I do save, I save as .rtf, which everything can read.

By the way, it is good to know, you writing a new story. There were no updates for long time, very long, as to my mind, more than one year already. The theme, I like most of all is Intangible, the “Marla at home” story. This story is very similar with recent “another story idea” discussion at “invisiphiles” yahoo group, message 5369.

Actually, I’ve been writing, but only adding bits and pieces to works in progress. I’ve been doing more photomanipulations, and doing some behind-the-scenes stuff on the site. Sooner or later I’ll have the stories updated so I can post them.

And I’m glad you like the Intangibles theme! :)
